Art, literature and hospitality
Ambassade Hotel
If you like hustle and bustle, Amsterdam is the place to be. Amsterdam itself is like a big open-air museum with its 17th-century canals, grand merchants’ houses and intimate squares. The Ambassade Hotel is right in the historic centre, a focal point for culture lovers and culinary enthusiasts, and a great favourite with writers too. The hotel, set in a row of 10 historic townhouses along the Herengracht canal, is home to an exceptional collection of art and literature. The guests over the years include a veritable who’s who of the world’s leading authors, and the library bar boasts no fewer than 5,000 signed books. A walk through the hotel is like visiting a museum. Feast your eyes on the colourful collection of more than 800 CoBrA works, even in Brasserie Ambassade. The icing on the cake is the in-house Ambassade Art Gallery with temporary exhibitions.
Classic French cuisine
Brasserie Ambassade
Brasserie Ambassade is not just a restaurant. You are surrounded by delightful works of art by the CoBrA movement. Chef Derek Reali serves classic French cuisine. The super wine list comprises mostly French wines together with some interesting wines from the Old and the New World. The famous Spanish architects Cruz y Ortiz, also responsible for the impressive interior renovation of the Rijksmuseum, created the contemporary look of Brasserie Ambassade, the Library Bar and the hotel’s public areas. Cruz y Ortiz successfully merged the magnificent art collection with the 17th century splendour of the townhouses along the canal. From the restaurant you will enjoy delightful views over the famous Herengracht.
