Kasteel Kerckebosch

An intimate castle in a woodland setting

Kasteel Kerckebosch

At the edge of the Zeist forests, surrounded by stately oaks and the gentle whisper of nature, young nobleman Egbert Lintelo de Geer brought his dream to life at the beginning of the 20th century: Castle Kerckebosch. A place where history is palpable in every detail. During its construction, antique ornaments and furnishings were collected from churches, monasteries, and castles in the surrounding area. The imposing doors with wrought-iron knockers from Utrecht’s Dom Tower, and the fireplace from an 18th-century canal house in Amsterdam, still carry the stories of bygone eras. More than a century later, owners Cynthia Schell and Hans van Triest have lovingly given the castle a new chapter. Authentic details and modern elegance merge seamlessly here, keeping the past alive without disturbing its peace. The 30 characterful rooms, spread across two wings and five room types, radiate warmth and individuality – each with its own atmosphere and views of the lush surroundings. Castle Kerckebosch is not just a place to stay, but a timeless experience where history, hospitality, and contemporary comfort come together in perfect harmony.

Overlooking the castle gardens

Bistoria

At the edge of the forest, where the greenery of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug almost reaches the tables, lies the Bistoria of Castle Kerckebosch. In this bright conservatory, surrounded by large windows, indoors and outdoors flow naturally into one another. The warm atmosphere, gentle murmur of conversation, and play of light make the Bistoria a place you’ll want to linger - whether for a leisurely lunch, a glass of wine in the afternoon sun, or a candlelit dinner as evening falls. Through the French doors, you step out onto the spacious terrace with teak tables, comfortable chairs, and views of the castle garden where chickens and goats roam peacefully. The menu offers dishes with character - where French and Italian classics meet playful Caribbean and Asian influences. Sommelier Milan Vissers carefully curates wines that harmonize effortlessly with the refined flavors of the kitchen. The Bistoria is an ode to pure enjoyment - unpretentious, flavorful, and with a delightful touch of individuality.
