De Kromme Watergang

The taste of Zeeland

De Kromme Watergang

When it comes to hospitality and fine dining, the people of Zeeland know how to impress, and De Kromme Watergang in Hoofdplaat is a perfect example. This part of Zeeland is famous for its warm hospitality and excellent food. The restaurant, with its unique rooms, is located just behind the dike of the Scheldt, offering an authentic taste of the region. Edwin, Blanche, and their son Tom Vinke have created a restaurant of international renown, where only the finest products are used. Every day, they source fresh fish and seafood from the fishermen in Breskens, while vegetables come from their own garden, De Zilte Hof. The three suites are located in a new apartment complex by the harbor of Breskens, perfectly situated near the beaches with views of the Westerschelde. The Belgian coastal town of Knokke is only a short drive away, ideal for a day trip.

International ambience

Restaurant De Kromme Watergang

Edwin, Blanche, and Tom Vinke have built an internationally acclaimed restaurant where only the best ingredients are good enough. Fresh fish and seafood are sourced daily from Breskens, and vegetables are grown in their own saline garden, De Zilte Hof. With 1 Michelin star and a Gault&Millau score of 16/20 points, De Kromme Watergang is known for its innovative cuisine. In 2024, they also opened Kromme Bistro, a more informal complement to the restaurant, where the same high-quality local products are served in a casual setting. Tom Vinke, who has taken over from his father, continues to emphasize sustainability and collaboration with local farmers, fishermen, and producers. Nature and the seasons inspire their creative dishes, offering a unique contribution to the culinary landscape.

Reviews

"Edwin Vinke is an ambassador for Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. The Oosterschelde and the North Sea are the main suppliers to this chic restaurant. Fish and shellfish are supplied by his father-in-law. He grows his own vegetables and fruit. Chef Vinke works as much as possible from fin and head to tail. The power of his kitchen comes from the product. With exotic spices and modern techniques, he provides extra punch."

Michelin*

"Set in the rural landscape of western Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, near the sea dike of the Westerschelde, this stylish restaurant has been cooking at a high level for many years. Its elegant setting and warm, attentive service create a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, with a terrace for lunch and dinner in summer. Chef Tom Vinke is notably flexible in both menu and preparations, allowing guests to choose freely even on weekends. A fine example is the langoustine à la nage: perfectly cooked langoustines in a creamy bisque with mushroom, chives, and carrot—balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented."
