A Château of History and Elegance
Kasteel Engelenburg

At Kasteel Engelenburg you can eat, drink and sleep to an exceptional standard and have a splendid 9-hole golf course at your disposal. The English Lounge at Kasteel Engelenburg houses the largest collection of single malt whiskies in the Netherlands. Wine lovers will not be disappointed here either. In the 16th century the first owner of the castle, Jacob Schimmelpenninck van der Oye, traded in German wines. Nowadays the hotel specialises in South African wines. The rooms and suites are furnished partly in antique style, and are situated in the Coach House, the Orangery or in the Cape House, which has the atmosphere of a Cape winery. The fairytale view from the 19th century conservatory restaurant over the moat and golf course will transport you back to another era. Dinner is of course complemented with excellent South African wines.

Restaurant Kasteel Engelenburg
Lunch and dinner are served in the 19th century conservatory overlooking the castle moat and the golf course beyond. The restaurant exudes a colonial, almost tropical atmosphere. The kitchen is French with an international twist and sources mainly local produce. Wine connoisseur Jurgen Luppes serves wines from famous South African wine houses, such as Boschendal, Vergelegen and Klein Constantia. These distinct wines are stored in the castle’s medieval vaults. During a wine tasting you can learn more about the world of South African wines. The castle has various terraces, all on the castle moat or the main court yard. All terraces offer lovely views of the estate and the golf course.

Here you can have a cup of coffee, lunch, a drink with a refreshment or a light meal in an informal ambiance. The English Lounge is particularly known for its special cabinet, the Scottish single malt whisky collection, which has won many awards. But the Lounge is also the ideal ambiance for an aperitif, a traditional English High Tea or an Afternoon Tea. When the weather is nice, the beautiful terraces along the moat or on the castle square are a great place to relax. The terrace on the moat is so beautiful that we actually have to keep it a secret.
