Travelers are increasingly choosing quality over speed. No rushed schedules or endless to-do lists, but the space to truly arrive at a place. At Quality Lodgings, this movement has been tangible for twenty years: a carefully selected collection of independent hotels in Europe, where time, attention, and genuine hospitality take center stage.
Against the tide of scaling up and automation, a new generation of QL Hoteliers chooses small scale and personal attention. They make the luxury of time tangible once again and give familiar concepts such as craftsmanship, connection, and quality a renewed meaning. In the Netherlands, twelve QL Hotels are now run by young entrepreneurs.

Under thirty
Joeri Hukker (27), Restaurant Hotel De Jaeger – Ruurlo: “My dream is coming true in my hometown. What we offer is more than just an evening out: it’s a complete experience in the spirit of the Achterhoek.” After months of preparation, the doors of Restaurant Hotel De Jaeger opened in July 2025.
Joe Pereboom & Jean van der Heijden (26), Cousins Boutique Hotel – Maastricht: The cousins transformed an old hat factory into one of the newest boutique hotels in the Netherlands. Luxury, local, and sustainable form the foundation of their approach. Since July, they have also been the owners of Hotel Botticelli, also in Maastricht.
Tom Vinke (29), De Kromme Watergang – Hoofdplaat: As a young chef, Tom works daily with seasonal products from his own vegetable garden of nearly one hectare. “I inherited my love for cooking from an early age. What could be better than harvesting your ingredients fresh from your own garden?” In October 2024, his dedication was rewarded with his first Michelin star.
Janiek van den Broeck & Bart Leussink (27), The Church – Arnhem: This young couple runs The Church, a fine dining restaurant and boutique hotel in a former church in Arnhem. Janiek—one of the youngest female entrepreneurs in fine dining—welcomes guests with genuine hospitality, while Bart distinguishes himself as the creative force in the kitchen. In 2024, their shared dream was rewarded with a listing in the Michelin Guide.

A brand promise that goes deeper
The young generation of travelers increasingly sets aside the fast track. They want to slow down, feel, taste, and discover. And that is exactly what the hoteliers of Quality Lodgings offer—without rush, but with full attention. For Quality Lodgings, this movement is not a trend, but the very essence of what the collective has been for twenty years.
“It is striking how many young entrepreneurs consciously choose an almost familial approach to hospitality,” says Pauline Verhoef, Managing Director of Quality Lodgings. “For them, slowing down is not a brake, but a way to add meaning. Our hotels are often historic, connected to their surroundings, and family-driven. They are not stopover hotels, but destinations in their own right.”
